About EPIZ

EPIZ (Entwicklungspolitisches Bildungs- und Informationszentrum – The Berlin Development Education and Information Center) is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 with the goal of raising awareness about development issues, development policy and the peaceful co-existence of people from different cultures. Our educational programs aim to explore the links between people living in the countries of the Northern Hemisphere with those in the Southern Hemisphere, increasing understanding of the economic, social, political and environmental forces which shape our lives, and facilitating the development of the skills, attitudes and values needed to work toward achieving a just and sustainable world. EPIZ contributes to the programs 'Global Learning' ('Globales Lernen') and 'Education for Sustainable Development' (Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung), and coordinates the 'One World' (Bildungsnetzwerk 'Eine Welt') education network in Berlin.

EPIZ provides training, support and resources for teachers, educational institutions and other professionals or organizations dealing with issues such as North-South relationships, sustainable development, globalization and trade, and human rights.

In addition to our main target groups in primary and secondary schools (we teach approximately 150 classes per year), EPIZ focuses its work on vocational training (berufliche Bildung) in Germany. We have developed educational materials for various occupations, including wood processing, floral design, health and tourism. Our educational aim is to shift away from a mere consumer's perspective of social and ecological responsibility and to enable young people to start a career with a comprehensive awareness of sustainability issues in their profession. We are now working to disseminate our approach across Europe.

An extensive media library (Mediothek) and an interactive E-Learning Center for Global Education provide information and materials for teaching and independent learning for regional schools and international partnerships. The Center specializes in the development of learning materials and curricula and is interested in international cooperation in the development of new teaching materials in the field of global education.

EPIZ has two permanent employees - Mary Kay Prinzler (director) and Anne-Kathrin Bruch (management) and project-related employees. EPIZ is financed with the support of the Berlin Senate (State Office for Development Cooperation) as well as through projects and donations.

EPIZ is interested in international cooperation. To discuss possible project ideas, please feel free to phone or e-mail us at anytime.
